13 Decor ideas to steal from commercial spaces

Sometimes I believe that commercial spaces have all the fun when it comes to interior design. Be it bars, restaurants, shops, exhibition halls or hotels, it seems like there’s always an element or two you swoon over. Maybe it’s because they take more risks and are more open to bold ideas because of the strong competition they have to deal with or their experience with customers have taught them what works best. Whatever the real reason is, I will forever find myself noticing at least a detail worth photographing and “stealing” from a coffee shop or hotel I visit.
Here are 13 examples to jumpstart your commercial space envy.

1. Consider painting the details you don’t like about your furniture a bright color.

2. Don’t be afraid to pick the thing/theme you love most and apply it all over your home. Nothing will scream more “you”!

3. Go crazy with the lighting fixtures. Instead of a single chandelier/ceiling lighting, play around with three or four different sized ones or even a row of pendant lights.

4. If you have access to natural materials, bring some branches home and utilise them as clothing racks or jewelry holders.

5. Steer away from traditional geometric shapes and experiment with edgy shelves to bring interest to a plain wall.

 6. Don’t keep the beautiful things you collect locked in boxes and closets. Display them vertically against a wall, combining open air shelves with transparent boxes, to avoid the objects collecting dust.

7. Create some kind of an intimate nook, no matter how small your space it. You’d be surprised with the new area you’ll suddenly have and the extra coziness it provides.

8. Mix in a quirky furniture piece even if you have the most neutral, classic or minimalistic decor style.

9. Allow windows and other glass covered surfaces to bring in the natural light in order to create an effortless moody atmosphere through your home.

10. Don’t be afraid to keep raw materials through the space and add warmth with different sources of light. The warm glow will tie everything together.

11. Go two-dimensional if you can’t have the real three-dimensional fixtures you like. Start with a mural, a headboard, adding ornaments details to simple cabinets and go bolder if you like the idea.

12. Feel free to pour bold color through the house. Something as simple as painting the interior of the kitchen cabinets will make you happy each time you open them. Consider exposed pillars, ceilings, nooks or even a whole room. A splash of color in a rather neutral home helps define a certain area and give the illusion of a more spacious room.

13. Make beautiful utility objects a part of the overall decor. Try mixing souvenirs and decoration objects with hats, bags, shoes or anything that you use regularly and are fond of.
